Big Fun in the Big Easy
New Orleans, Louisiana is one of my favorite cities in the whole wide world. It is enriched with a vibrant history, amazing food, and inspiring people. Here are some of my favorite places to visit, dine, and stay:
Activities:
History - No trip of mine is complete without learning about the destination.
Whitney Plantation - A plantation dedicated to the memory of the enslaved. A tough but fulfilling experience. You'll need a rental car to get there.
Katrina Tour - This is also a tough experience. You get to see up close where the water entered and how high the water was when the levees broke. You also visit a few memorials.
Free Tours By Foot - They offer several different tours, many of which begin in the French Quarter. My favorites were the ones in the cemeteries. They're free but they ask that you give a tip.
Ghosts Tours - My family is obsessed with true crime, death, and the afterlife. Of course, we go on ghost tours.
Dead of Night Ghosts & Graveyards Bus Tour with Haunted History Tours
Fun - I am on vacation after all.
Bourbon Street - A must for anyone going to New Orleans. And you don't have to dress up to have a good time. Bar hop and crawl all night!
Bounce Fitness w/Moe Joe - Bounce music comes from New Orleans. Learn how to dance to it while also getting fit.
Swamp - Haven't done this yet because it's far out. However, it's another must when you're in New Orleans. This is on my list for the next trip.
Restaurants:
Mother's - Some great soul food! But also a celebrity hotspot over the years. Beyonce was once here like us regular folks.
Drago's - Best oysters in the world. Don't debate me.
Cafe Du Monde - Powdered sugary goodness. My favorite is the 24 hour one for after a night of bald head shenanigans on Bourbon Street.
New Orleans School of Cooking - Watch a cooking demonstration and learn how to cook New Orlean's most popular dishes. Then eat it afterward.
Lodging:
New Orleans can be expensive for hotel lodging especially in the French Quarter, FYI. I have stayed twice at Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel but only with points and corporate sponsorship. It's not in my budget but may be in yours. There's a Drago's inside that makes the price worth it.
What is in my budget is Airbnb.

I found this great place last year that will be my go-to place from now in the 7th Ward. The neighborhoods surrounding the French Quarter, like the 7th Ward, cheaper alternatives. An uber/lyft ride is 5 minutes to Bourbon St area and around $7 on average depending on where you are.
