Amsterdam
I've been to Amsterdam twice. Here is where I stayed and what I did.
Lodging:
Hostelle - Black woman owned. Near a metro. Women only hostel. Enjoyed my stay there both times.
The Student Hotel Amsterdam City - This is a nice hotel that reminds me of some upscale dorms. If you don't like sharing spaces like you do in a hostel, this is a good option for lodging.
Activities
House of Bols - You recognize the name from bars around the world. It's fun, informative, and comes with a cocktail.
Casa Rosso - Go at your own risk. I'll let you be the judge. My friends made me go.
Sandemans Free Tour of Amsterdam - I always do a walking tour when I get to a city. The tour guides always have great insight into history and attractions.
Sandemans Red Light District Tour - Not free but inexpensive. Learned a lot about the history of this famous area. Check out their other tours!
Honorable Mentions
Anne Frank House - I went to a hood school so we didn't have to read The Diary of Anne Frank. I don't know much about her story so I wasn't pressed to go. The tickets go fast so buy 2 months in advance when they release.
Van Gogh Museum - I had tickets but I skipped it because I was tired :(
