Feb 2018 - Student Parents On a Mission

If you know me, you know I am a proud Spartan of Michigan State University. I did an insane amount of growing up on that campus and wouldn't trade my experience for the world. But recently, I have felt so much shame and embarrassment due to administrators' actions. Here are some links if you need to catch up:

Izzo's response to the gymnastics scandal and his own allegations was truly a letdown. I know public figures are human which means they will make mistakes. But I just expected better from him. I am a huge fan of Spartan basketball but no Final Four will ever be more important than keeping predators off the street. The people in charge did so much covering up to protect the very things that they will inevitably lose anyway. What is done in the dark ALWAYS comes to light.

I really get sick to my stomach thinking of all the crap this pedophile did for almost 30 years. No amount of money or notoriety would make me keep this information secret or put children in harm's way. What in the hell is wrong with people? This could have been my daughter! She was a gymnast for 7 years. She got her start at a local gym while I attended MSU. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. I can't imagine the pain what they are going through.

Every year, I will give back to important organizations that were key resources for me while I was attending college. Thinking about logging on to MSU's donation site with the recent news just didn't sit well with my spirit. However, the organizations I support had nothing to do with the careless and despicable actions of the administration. My February donation of 2018 will be going thru Michigan State University. However, it will be directly awarded to the Student Parents on a Mission fund. I was a member of this organization as a student and a single parent. This group , along with the Student Parent Resource Center, was an advocate for families on that campus. They are a true example of standing up for women and children as that is the majority of the community they serve.
