The Glow Up: The Gucci Story

In the current state of the world, we are clouded by the images from social media. People are constantly referencing the glow up but we only see them in their best light. Our profiles only portray one side of our lives which confuses us mentally and leads to depression. Don't believe me? Here's a study (it's one of many).

I try to be transparent on social media to make sure I come off as authentic. And I also don't want to contribute to someone's depression. However, I don't want y'all in my business. But I know how important it is to show a mixture of your life and not just the happy times.

Same goes for celebrities. It is not in their best brand interest to be open when there are hard times. Sure they may reflect on it once time has passed but they don't have to give us that information. That's why I love the fact that we saw Cardi B's glow up on social media. We are able to resonate with her and root for success. One of my favorite glow up stories is Gucci Mane. Ever since he was released from prison, he's a completely changed man. I was so excited to read his book!

Gucci was very open about his past experiences. That's an important part of a memoir and understanding the glow up. If you don't see me in a dark place, you won't understand when I step into the light. We notice a huge difference in Mr. Radric Davis today. And that's because of who he was which he details in the book. Without any spoilers I'll tell you some things he discussed:

- Every single time he went to jail AND why

- His family history on both sides and his relationships with his parents

- How he got to Atlanta (Gucci is originally from Alabama)

- How he started selling drugs and rapping

- The Jeezy beef (and other small beefs he had)

- How he met Deb Antney, Waka, and Nicki Minaj

- Remember the twitter rant he had......he brings that up too

- His rap career and the work ethic that shot him to the top

- His label and how he helped start the career of our rap faves today (i.e. Migos)

- Most importantly, the effect of drugs on his body and how/why he is sober now

The important thing about biographies is it leaves us with an example. Like Jay- Z rapped, " Hov did that so you ain't have to go through that". Let someone else's path help guide you down yours and keep you from making mistakes. Why recreate the wheel?
