The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up
If you know me personally or follow me on Snapchat, you know I always have a junky room. I just hate cleaning my room but I also hate being in dirty places. Many times in college, I would invite my mom to come visit just because I knew she would clean my place. And she would let every friend and visitor know that I was not raised to be messy. I was raised in a really clean home. But my sister and mom always cleaned up behind me.
I recently got fed up with my lazy antics and decided to read "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing" by Marie Kondo. This book opened my eyes to another way of viewing my belongings and home. She tells you to get rid of everything in your house that does not bring you joy. As an aspiring pack rat (my mom called me that), I have so much stuff that can go. Then find a place for the things that bring you joy. It's that simple. The book breaks it down by category (clothes, books, documents, etc.). She also has her own style of folding called the KonMari method (you can find it on youtube). It will save you space and make it easier to pick out clothes.
The author recommends you complete your house all at once but since I'm lazy I'm doing it slowly. However, I am happy to report that my room and home have been cleaner these last two months. I pick up things, put things back, and get rid of things I no longer need or use. Unfortunately, I am no longer a candidate for the next season of Hoarders.
